The Nets face heavy road expansion, which means more Kyrie Irving

The Nets are not the only NBA team to post a better record on the road this season than they are at home, although their dilemma about Kyrie Irving’s part-time availability makes his situation unique.

After facing the Pelicans on Saturday at the Barclays Center, the Nets will play nine of their next 11 games away from Brooklyn – divided into four and five game divisions around two home contests against Jan. 25-26. The Lakers and Nuggets.

Irving was left out of the squad due to local COVID-19 orders, and Kevin Durant rested Thursday night when the Nets suffered a blowout loss to the Thunder and fell to 11-11 at the Barclays Center this season. 15-4 on the road.

“It’s awkward with the home thing,” Coach Steve Nash admitted after the game. “Not just us, I couldn’t answer [why], But I know we are not the only team.

Kyrie Irving, who is driving to the basket in the latest game against the Bulls, will play more games as the Nets prepare for a massive road expansion.

“I think it’s going a little bit in the league where teams – good teams, in particular – have less impressive records at home than on the road. I don’t really know why.”

In fact, this isn’t the only top-tier team with an odd home-road split this season. For example, the 76ers entered Friday’s home game against the Celtics 8-9 at Wells Fargo Center and 15-8 outside Philadelphia.

The Nets’ upcoming nine overseas games give Irving a chance to get more familiar with his fellow Big 3 stars Durant and James Harden. He will be able to fit into the rest of the roster, having lost six of his last nine games, but will be able to get to the 41-game midpoint of the season by recovering from a nearly team-wide COVID-19 shutdown. 26-15 pts.

“Halfway through, obviously we’ve had a tough stretch lately. When I came back and everyone came back from COVID, I was saying, ‘We’re going to have a good season,'” Nash said. We have been top-10 for most of this year.

“We found a way to win a lot of games with 10 new guys and there was no Kairi and Kairi to come back and then we had a little bit of a struggle with trying to get this thing together and start over again. Otherwise, build tons and sometimes you’ll learn more about yourself as you go through these difficult times.

Harden noted Thursday night that he and his teammates were “tired and tired” of the four-game bullying schedule this week – including the former COVID deferral makeup in Portland.

“Man, it’s crazy because of COVID,” Harden said. “[Thursday] It was definitely a little disappointing because we wanted to win. We played very well [Wednesday against the Bulls], So we wanted to have some kind of carryover. But it didn’t happen.

He believes the team’s struggles will be rewarded in the second half, which will include a further reorganization of Irving, perhaps even in home matches, eventually.

“You should be able to solve things head-on, take a deeper look in the mirror and solve some problems,” Nash said. “I enjoy some of these tough stretches because I think it shows the team how to climb, how to be resilient and how to find solutions.

“Overall we had a great year and now we have gone through that COVID hurdle and we need to try to find our strides and stability.”
