It feels like the day everyone was singing along to songs like “Don’t Cha” and “Stickwittu.” During the pop group’s journey into the spotlight, The Pussycat Dolls received countless sensational hits, propelling iconic artists to all-new levels of fame.

pcd May have premiered in 2005, but The Pussycat Dolls was founded long before that. Allmusic has outlined the exciting and surprising details of the group’s origins—and as it turns out, prominent and talented choreographer Robin Antin founded The Pussycat Dolls in 1995. Carmit Butcher was one of the women who were part of the original. The group was best known for their spectacular performances in The Viper Room.

The entertaining group and their fun and exaggerated routines began to gain so much traction and attention that popular and high-profile celebrities and artists began reaching out to Antin to perform with The Pussycat Dolls. Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani, P! NK, and Britney Spears are just a few of the musicians who joined in on the fun. Of course, being associated with such a believable and big name The Pussycat Dolls certainly didn’t hurt matters.

The growing popularity of the Pussycat Dolls prompted the group to grow and expand at every level, and in no time, The Pussycat Dolls had a lead vocalist, a contract deal, and award-winning music. Looking back, her unforgettable performance in The Viper Room certainly played a big part in helping The Pussycat Dolls establish their name, fame and reputation.

Johnny Depp also had a connection to The Viper Room

The Viper Room isn’t just famous for being a stomping ground for pussycat dolls. The remarkable club actually has quite a history and past; At one time, Johnny Depp was actually a co-owner. On top of that, Tobey Maguire and Leonardo DiCaprio are often known to hang out at the establishment that is referred to as a landmark.

Ashley Roberts, one of the members of The Pussycat Dolls, told about a strange run-up she had with Depp at The Viper Room a while back. Completely starstruck, Roberts admitted that she was blank and awkwardly started talking about her nose. The Daily Star rewrote all the LOL-worthy details surrounding the comical moment.

The Viper Room has a strange history and past

Believe it or not, The Viper Room was not the first name of a club that is rooted in the music scene and Hollywood culture. The club was known as The Melody Room before being The Viper Room. During this period, River Phoenix, an actor best known for his roles in the films: Stand with me and running on Empty, died of a tragic overdose while in the club. The horrific event marked the end of the era, and shortly after, the legendary club was ready to switch ownership. Depp and his business partner, Anthony Fox, acquired The Melody Room in 1993 and officially changed the name of the establishment to The Viper Room.

Unfortunately, despite all the changes, strange and unusual circumstances continued to haunt the club. In 2001, Fox mysteriously went missing. Making matters even more curious, Fox was slated to appear in court the next day to escalate the ongoing legal dispute between her and Depp. Amber Heard, one of Depp’s ex-wives, recently hired a PI to look into the unresolved issue. To this day, Fox’s body has never been found and he remains a missing person. However, even after Fox’s disappearance, justice still prevailed regarding The Viper Room.

Fox’s trial led to a judge ruling that Depp was indeed guilty of fraud, mismanagement and abuse of authority. As a result, in 2003, a legal settlement forced Depp to hand over his shares of The Viper Room to his former co-partner’s daughter. MEA WorldWide has documented all the known details surrounding the bizarre mystery, and hopefully, Fox’s family will finally get some answers. It’s no surprise that a club like The Viper Room has such a reputation.
