Thiago Alcantara gave a timely reminder that this evening’s class is permanent, with the Spaniard knocking off a delicious volley from outside the box to give Liverpool the lead in the second half against Porto.
The former Bayern Munich man has struggled a bit since arriving in Anfield in the summer of 2020, with tonight’s effort being his second goal for the club.
However, with Liverpool still holding on to their resilient Portuguese opponents and needing a win to keep their knockout hopes alive, Thiago stepped up to the plate.
In the 52nd minute, the Liverpool free-kick was taken away from Puerto Defense, but it was only for the 30-year-old who guided the ball into the corner of the net.
Watch it below for yourself.
The alternate angle shows how much Thiago created the backspin on the ball.
Many fans on social media simply appreciated the cleanliness of the strike.
Does it really bounce? The spin on the ball seems to float upward: astonishing:. An incredible goal.

Thanks to Mohamed Salah’s 16th goal of the season, Liverpool will continue to win the game 2-0.
The Egyptians rushed to the Puerto Box, winning in style before beating the keeper at the nearest post.
Liverpool have already qualified for the knockout stages of the Champions League, winning all five group matches so far.
Jurgen Klopp’s men will travel to San Siro for the first time in a decade for next month’s B group final, where they will surely be hoping to make six to six victories against Milan.
