The favorite target of New England’s last great quarterback has begun to become its current fan.
Mc Jones led the Patriots to four consecutive victories and put them back into the playoff race at the end of the season, and one of Tom Brady’s favorite targets and close friend, Julian Edelman.
“The kid is dealing,” Edelman Tweeted On Sunday, a tweet was sent that tagged Jones before halftime of the New England game against the Cleveland Browns.
About five minutes before Edelman’s tweet, Jones fired a 23-yard touchdown pass to Kendrick Bourne between two Cleveland defenders, extending New England’s lead to 21-7 before the extra point. He finished the opening half at 13-15 with 134 yards and a pair of touchdowns – the former coming on a 3-yard pass to Hunter Henry.
Jones’ 10th career start included 45 consecutive points from the Patriots in their 45-7 victory over the Browns. Alabama finished 15th overall with just four imperfections and the best completion percentage (82.6%) of his young career. His 8.6 yards-per-pass average is the second-highest of his career, and he averaged 10.9 yards per carry in New England’s overtime loss to Dallas on Oct. 17.
He has maintained the level of efficiency that former rookie quarterbacks have not sustained over the course of a full season, their 69% completion percentage per year To break Doc Prescott 67.8% from 2016. ESPN analyst Ryan Clark Said Monday morning Jones was “as good as Tom Brady or maybe better when Tom Brady was the Patriots QB.”
And now, following his tweet on Sunday, Edelman has joined a group of people to publicly acknowledge the trajectory set by Jones after 10 games. Edelman was a seventh-round pick by the Patriots in the 2009 NFL Draft and finished his career with Brady for three 1,000-yard seasons.
Edelman retired earlier this season after spending the last offseason trying to persuade Brady to stay with the Patriots rather than flee in free agency. Brady has moved on to the Buccaneers, but the future quarterback has officially arrived in Foxborough.
