Toni Braxton is an R&B legend known for her deep sultry voice and soulful voice. Throughout his music career, Starr has sold over 67 million records worldwide and won numerous awards, including nine Billboard Music Awards and seven Grammys. Braxton had a singing foundation in the church choir, but eventually found herself in the mainstream media thanks to someone who saw her singing at a gas station.

Today Braxton is known for his chart-topping hits and melodious bisexual voice. However, this was not the case when she was starting out. Starr grew up in a household with five siblings, an ordained minister, and a mother who led the choir. Suffice to say, the Braxton family was a religious one and remained so for the longest time.

Initially, the songwriter wanted Anita Baker to sing “Love Sholda Bring You Home”, but she passed it on. Babyface and her business partner L.A. Reid recently signed on Braxton, who performed the song. Baker asked the producers to let Braxton sing the song and the rest as we know it is history.

Braxton’s career is filled with remarkable heights. She has recorded songs that range from “He Wasn’t Man Enough” to “Unbreak My Heart”. The singer also wrote a memoir based on the latter. NPR hosted the songwriter in 2014 to talk about her music career and her book.
Topics they discussed included the story of how they were discovered by chance at a gas stop. She said, “I got $5 borrowed from my dad, and I went to this gas station in Annapolis, MD, and I had a plan. I was going to have $3 in my gas tank and $2 for lunch. And This gas attendant comes up to me, and he’s staring at me. And I’m thinking, OK, a little weird. But then he says, all of a sudden, are you a singer? I’d love to do some demo on you.”
Braxton said she thought the man was crazy because “he works at a gas station.” She continued, “Sometimes in life, you’re in the right place at the right time. You have to take the risk, and it turned out to be legitimate.”
Toni Braxton retires from music but returns with a bang
In 2014, Braxton was diagnosed with lupus and canceled her tour dates, eventually retiring from the music industry. However, Babyface convinced her to return, and together they produced the 2014 album love, marriage and divorce Which was well received by both fans and critics.
That same year, Braxton made his return to Broadway. after midnight. He also published his memoir Unbreak My Heart, in which she discusses her success, struggle and self-healing. In 2018 Braxton released his first solo album in eight years titled sex and cigarettes, which debuted at number 22 on the US Billboard 200.
