Twisted Sister’s Dee Snider dismisses Gene Simmons’ claim that “rock is dead”: “Open your fucking ears and eyes”

Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snyder has become the latest high-profile name to debunk Gene Simmons’ controversial “Rock is Dead” claim.

The KISS bassist previously doubled down on controversy with comments in 2014, and comments made in a new interview which arrived in January.

“Rock is dead. And that’s because new bands haven’t taken the time to create glamour, excitement, and epic material,” Simmons said. Gulf News.

“I mean, the Foo Fighters are a great band, but it’s a 20 year old band. So you can go back to 1958 to 1988. That’s 30 years old. During that time, we had Elvis [Presley], The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, on and on.”

He suggested that popular bands do exist, but that does not mean that they are “iconic and legacy and forever”.

However, Snyder has now dismissed the comments as “selfish.”

He told me hunger for distraction Podcast: “Rock ‘n’ Roll is dead, nothing drives me mad more than words.”

“It’s so selfish, it’s so selfish, it’s so self-absorbed. Self-this, self-that. This is wrong. Get out of your fucking house, open your fucking ears and eyes, and just look around!” stop hiding

“When Gene Simmons says (he mimics the voice of Simmons himself), ‘Let me tell you something, there’s no Bob Dylans or Jimi Hendrix…’ No, you’re just not looking.”

Praising his children for keeping them informed about the latest music trends, Snyder said: “They have exposed me to not only what new music is, but great music… talent and passion ( out there) … because it’s pure passion now.

“These little kids have no hope of becoming rich by doing this. His best hope is that maybe we make enough money selling CDs and T-shirts after shows to go to the next fucking gig.

“It’s so real, it’s so heartfelt, it’s for the love of rock ‘n’ roll. It drives me crazy when people say ‘the rock is dead’.”

“Actually, it is not so cut and dry. Simmons has never denied or changed that “Rock is Dead” but he’s not really denying that talent is out there, he’s saying something different.

Alice Cooper similarly dismissed Simmons’ comments earlier this year, saying That “rock’n’roll is watching out right now, and it gives us that illegal attitude”.

Meanwhile, Simmons recently talked about some of his former KISS band members, saying that “they make for really bad choices”.
