An American vegan activist was arrested after she took her pet calf for a walk through Moscow’s Red Square.
Russian news agency TASS reported that Alicia Day allegedly chanted “animals are not food” in the capital’s main square where “public events are prohibited”. Day pleaded guilty although he claims he had no political goals.
He was sentenced to 13 days of “administrative arrest” and fined 20,000 rubles, or $285, for defying police orders when he took his pet calf to a Russian landmark, Reuters reported. An unauthorized protest was blocking pedestrians while walking along.

Day, who entered Russia on a tourist visa on January 21, allegedly bought the calf online to save it from slaughter. He also has seven pigs and two other calves at his shelter, he told TASS.

“I bought it so they wouldn’t eat it later,” Day told the outlet. “And I wanted to show him the capital, it’s so beautiful.”
In 2022, Day lives in Warsaw, where she has a pet lamb, TASS reported.

In 2019, Day rescued a pig named Jixy Pixy from slaughter in the West of England and brought him to London, where she would take him to restaurants and on city tours.
The Daily Mail reported in 2019 that Day was forced to surrender Day to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) when her landlord discovered she was keeping him in her tiny apartment.

Day reportedly searched the country for the pig and issued an appeal on Instagram, the Daily Mail reported. She also said she was going to hire a private detective to find the pig.
“It’s not over until the day I die,” Day reportedly said of the missing pig.
