A video of a couple setting off explosive fireworks in a tree-lined yard during a gender reveal party has gone viral on TikTok, sparking outrage from concerned observers who slammed the couple for the risque spectacle. Was punished.

But the over-the-top nature of some gender revelations came into focus in 2020 when a smoke-producing pyrotechnic device sparked a deadly wildfire in California that resulted in multiple deaths and burned more than 10,000 acres.

The El Dorado wildfire was the second wildfire ignited by gender reveal pyrotechnics. In 2018, one was accused of inciting a sex-misleading revelation. 45,000 acres of wildfires in Arizona and caused $8 million in damage.
