Top Republicans on Monday pushed back on former President Donald Trump’s apparent call to overturn the Constitution over unsubstantiated allegations of “massive and widespread” voter fraud in the 2020 presidential election.
“I have to tell you that I think everybody in public office, everybody who wants to serve or serve again, should be very clear that we support and defend the Constitution of the United States.” Former Vice President Mike Pence said about it South Carolina radio station on Monday.
Pence noted that all federal officials take an oath to protect and defend the Constitution, adding that he believed Trump had lived up to that oath during his four years as No. 2, even as the 76-year-old Trump. Pressured him to reject the 2020 election results.
Senate Minority Whip John Thune (R-D.), the second-highest ranking Republican in the Senate, also weighed in on Trump’s weekend comments on Monday, telling reporters he “couldn’t agree more” with the former president and calling Trump’s point he left. “golden opportunity” statement for 2024 GOP Presidential Candidates.

Recently re-elected Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) defeated a Trump-backed Republican challenger, calling Trump’s remarks on Sunday “an insult to our Republic.”
“Proposing the repeal of our Constitution is not only a betrayal of our oath, but an insult to our republic.” he wrote on Twitter.

On Monday, the former president claimed he did not want to “repeal” the Constitution, calling such reports “more FALSE INFORMATION AND LIES.”
