New Jersey Councilwoman Eunice Domfor — who was shot and killed Wednesday near her Serreville home — was remembered by loved ones and colleagues as a successful newlywed single mother who helped others. Tried to help.
Domfor, 30, was pronounced dead Wednesday night after being shot multiple times while driving his white Nissan near Camelot at the La Mer apartment complex.
His car eventually came to a stop when it collided with two parked vehicles, including a witness’s Lexus.
“It took me a second to realize there was a body behind the wheel,” the witness told The Post on Thursday.
“There was a bullet hole in the passenger door and a bunch of bullet holes in the driver’s door. Some other neighbors said they saw someone running away wearing a mask.
Locals believe the gunman may have escaped via the Garden State Parkway. About 20 Sayreville officers were seen Thursday afternoon combing the Jon Bon Jovi service area toward the GSP exit.
Although authorities have not named a suspect, police at the scene later told The Post that Domfor was caught on video talking to the shooter moments before his death.
Single mother – and new bride
At least two dozen mourners gathered at Domfor’s parents’ Newark apartment Thursday. Screams of agony could be heard echoing off the walls as loved ones suffered sudden loss.
Relatives told The Post that the Republican councilwoman was the eldest of five children in a Ghanaian family and leaves behind an 11-year-old daughter.
Domfor was married in Africa in November, said a cousin, Rita Kay. Her husband, Eze Kings, is a pastor in Nigeria.
“It’s hard to talk about. It’s very hard. That’s all I can tell you. [Eunice was] A humble woman. She’s very down to earth, very collected, laid back,” Rita said.
While Domfor’s mother, Mary, was too distraught to speak, her father, the Prince, said the loss of his daughter was a “huge blow”.
His ‘dream’ of helping others
Originally from Newark, Domfor was elected to her first council term in the Borough of Sayreville in November 2021.
A few weeks before the victory, he said TAPintoRaritan Bay that she was “proud” to have graduated from Newark Public Schools before earning a Women’s Studies degree from William Paterson University in 2017.
At the time of her election, she had reportedly lived in the Middlesex County area for five years.
“She left. [away] from Newark for a better life for her daughter,” cousin Kendra told The Post of Domfor’s decision to leave the city in which she was raised.

“When [Eunice] “Young, I think her dream was to be a councilwoman to help a lot of people,” explained Aunt Beatrice Sahne.
“That was her dream. She didn’t do it for power. She did it to help the people. She was born here, so she was a citizen here. She wanted to give back to the country.”
A loyal role model
Domfor’s younger sister, Priscilla, said her late sister’s desire to help the community stemmed from her Christian faith.
“She loved God. Every aspect of her life was God,” he said, recalling that Domfor previously served as a volunteer EMT and taught CPR classes.
“She always wanted to help the community, no matter where it was. Even when she came back here to visit us, she would stop and talk to people, invite them to her church — ‘Come. , we’ll feed you, don’t worry. Call me if you need a ride.’ She was always like that.”
Domfor also found ways to incorporate his faith into his professional life.
“She was a priestess,” Prince Domfur said of his daughter.

Champions Royal Assembly is a ministry run by Nigerian pastor and televangelist Joshua Agunla. Domfor often posted on social media about Ignala and the ministry.
In a ___ December 2022 post Celebrating his wedding, he thanked the preacher and his wife as his “spiritual parents.”
Looking back on her sister’s legacy, Priscilla laments that she no longer has such a strong, female role model in her life.
“This is my only sister. I had no other sisters to look up to. I only have my brothers now,” she said.
Past legal troubles
Despite Domfor’s seemingly happy personal life, she was also no stranger to public controversy.
Less than a year into her first term on Sayreville’s council, she was one of two Republicans who moved. A resolution for a local investigation Infamous former Democratic councilor Thomas Pollando’s role in the strip club bribery scheme.
A few years ago, Domfor was also embroiled in her own legal troubles stemming from a 2017 car accident.
According to a lawsuit filed in December 2019, plaintiff Frank Fernandez-Tavarre alleges that Eunice Dwumfour was the owner and potential driver of a car that was “recklessly and negligently” driven into her vehicle in Hillside on December 21, 2017. .
In the lawsuit, Fernandez Tivara claimed he suffered “serious, serious, permanent and disabling injuries” in the accident.
Motions in the case continued for nearly two years before it was finally dismissed in August 2021.
Fernandez-Tavarre could not immediately be reached for comment.
Unexplained motivation
As the investigation into Domfor’s death continues, relatives and colleagues are still puzzled over the motives behind the shocking tragedy.
“[Eunice] God loved him so much, so I don’t know why the devil came and took his life like that,” Sahne said.
“Whoever did this, I know he will pay the price … his spirit will haunt them.”
“We don’t know what happened,” said Prince Domfur.
“now, [Eunice is] Bus. I pray that Allah gives him a better place to rest. One day, we will meet again.”
Former Sayreville GOP chairman and one-term councilman Arthur Rittenhouse, 78, told The Post he was shocked by the killing.
“[Eunice] He was well liked by anyone who spoke to him or had anything to do with him, so it was a really shocking incident,” he said.
Rittenhouse explained that he first met Domfor five years ago through local politics, and that the two have a special bond because they both graduated from William Patterson.
He also admitted that politicians often have disagreements, but “nothing that leads to that.”
“She was a very, very pleasant person. And she was a woman of her faith, and she always expressed what she was talking about,” he said.
Asia LaPierre, Dwumfour’s neighbor in Sayreville, was similarly terrified of the crime.
“I’m in awe! I couldn’t believe this happened to her. She was such a kind person. Such a sweet woman,” he said.
As of Thursday afternoon, police had not responded to a Post request for comment on the case.
