Winter weather warnings are in place from the Plains to the upper Midwest as a cold front moves through the middle of the country.

On the warm side of the front, heavy rain is falling from the southern Plains to the Ohio River Valley.
The heaviest rain is expected across Tennessee and Kentucky on Thursday.

On the cold side of the front, snow is spreading from the Plains to Michigan.
1-3 centimeters of snow is expected.

In addition, ice is expected to fall from Kansas and northeast into parts of Wisconsin.
Meanwhile, unsettled weather is expected on the West Coast.

Over the next few days, the Pacific Northwest is expected to see first coastal showers and high snow beginning Thursday morning.
A second, larger system will reach northern California by the weekend.
