A powerful storm system will bring heavy mountain snow and coastal rain to the U.S. Northwest this weekend.

Heavy rain and snow is forecast for much of the Northwest and Northern California.
Snowfall totals are 6 to 12 inches at higher elevations.
The heaviest snowfall is expected in California’s Sierra Nevada, where several feet of snow is possible.
Winter weather warnings were issued over the weekend.
Up to 3 inches of rain is expected for coastal communities.
Winter weather advisories remain in effect for the Plains and parts of the Midwest through Friday.
Moderate snow and gusty winds are possible from South Dakota to Chicago.
Meanwhile, winter storm warnings have been issued for north-central Iowa, where the winter storm will be strongest.
