The suspect is in custody following reports of an active shooter with a long gun in the North BC community of Vanderhoof.
An emergency alert issued in the municipality of a small district 100 kilometers west of Prince George has also been canceled.
The tense situation began with reports of a shooter targeting the Vanderhoof RCMP squadron on Columbia Street around 12:15 pm, officials said.
The suspect is believed to be driving around the area in a white Ford pickup.
As the incident unfolded, the RCMP urged about 4,400 residents of the community to “stay inside or take shelter on the spot.”
“We respect that the public can care about family or friends in the area. We ask you not to attend the area and allow first responders to resolve an emergency,” the BC RCMP said in a news release at 1 p.m.
The situation has sent an emergency text alert to people at Vanderhoof and to the community.
