White House press secretary Carine Jean-Pierre, who is known for reading scripted responses during her daily press briefings, mixed up her statements before catching herself and correcting them on Monday.
A reporter asked Jean-Pierre about New Hampshire Sen. Jean Shaheen, a Democrat, not attending the ball that night because President Biden approved a proposal to put South Carolina ahead of New Hampshire in the primary.

According to a reporter, Shaheen was worried the move would leave New Hampshire vulnerable during the primaries.

Jean-Pierre told reporters that the White House will respect the Hatch Act, which was passed in 1939 to limit political activity by federal employees.
“But looking back is the worst irony,” he said. “You know, the 2020 election has been proven by the home of the Trump administration…
Jean-Pierre then went on to say that the White House is taking the Hatch Act very seriously, adding that it should be careful with its words as the 2024 election approaches.
